No kidding. I called this.
Guess what else: 691hp? No way. Not with a 112mph trap. EV cars have a huge weakness (various reasons) in that they are usually not suited to producing large amounts of power for a long period of time. I would say that "691hp" was already cut way back even before the end of the 1/4 mile.
The 1/4 ET doesn't show it well, which is convenient for marketing. A standing mile would tell the story. As would a 50-100 time or something similar.
If they want to play this marketing angle they are going to have to stand up to this criticism.

I forgot about back EMF. Maybe it's not limiting power but the motor is just spinning too fast since there is only one transmission gear.
If EVs are really supposed to replace ALL of the things we do with the ICE, they will need to start figuring out transmissions.

The early Tesla's only had one or two gears. This would mean that even if it had 691 hp, it only hit that peak once or twice in the quarter mile... Vice the Hellcat hitting it many times..

Yeah they have a lot of torque...at zero RPM. Fortunately, you don't shift at zero rpm. In fact, doesn't their torque pretty much peak at zero and fall off from there?

I'm not sure on that, so I went back to endless sphere (an electric bicycle forum)... These guys evaluate electric motors all the time.
In this thread, the endless sphere version of Kevin evaluates a new hub motor.. Pretty interesting stuff.

The electric bike guys really get to look into batteries and motors because they're not spending 1000 hours converting a Miata to electric using a forklift motor they found..
