Caprice engine swap?
Re: Caprice engine swap?
Yeah but 750iL >> LS400
Re: Caprice engine swap?
I don't expect the BMW to strand me, and I know that sounds surprising. I do expect a good laundry list of little things that I will want to fix and possibly enjoy the process.
The LS400 needs ~90k (or is it 60k) timing belts...

I actually LOL'd when I read this.Bob wrote:Here's one way to look at it.
Probability you are forced into daily driving the Ranger during the time you are doing the LS swap on the Caprice:
LS400 - <5%
750iL - 65%
Re: Caprice engine swap?
There is no specified timing belt interval for the earlier 1UZ unless it is used as a taxi, for which the interval is 120k or something like that. Judging by the condition of the 120K one I took out of the SC400, I would say every 120-125K is about the interval they should be changed at. It can be done in half a day, the only special tool needed is the one to hold the cam gear and one to remove the harmonic balancer. Both of which I have.kevm14 wrote:I don't expect the BMW to strand me, and I know that sounds surprising. I also have an SC400 FSM set. The powertrain stuff is the same for the 1UZ, at least on the '89-'95 ones. The later 1UZ is similar, except with OBD-2.Adam wrote:There is no specified timing belt interval for the earlier 1UZ unless it is used as a taxi, for which the interval is 120k or something like that. Re: Caprice engine swap?
The Gates timing belt kit (with W/P and tensioners) is currently $159 on RockAuto. The worst part about the cost of that job is the $50 of Toyota Long Life coolant I had to buy (the red stuff).
Re: Caprice engine swap?
Yep, the condition of the hoses and stuff on that '94 SC400 was suprising to me.. That sh*t should be rotting away, but it was fine.
Re: Caprice engine swap?
What about the 98?
Re: Caprice engine swap?
This is the only 750iL near me: http://charlotte.craigslist.org/cto/5381479927.html Looks nice, but probably more than you want to spend. $25k in service records is a bit scary!
