I guess the old truck only shifted twice for the 1/4 mile and this does 4 shifts. Not sure if that's accurate...Bob wrote:It looks like the 8-speed didn't make the Silverado any quicker to accelerate: http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/201 ... st-reviews
I wonder if it is due to extra shifting.
2015 Escalade: still popular, now with 8L90

C/D test with the 8L90.
Unlike the Silverado, performance benefits here. Maybe they are still fooling with the calibration. Probably are.
The trans seems to pay dividends in the off-the-line snap department with the 0-60 falling from 6.1 to 5.6 and the 1/4 ET falling from 14.7 to 14.1. Trap speed even increases 3 mph to 99. One thing that is confusing, is that the 5-60 is still 6.5 seconds. I guess they brake torque it? Weird. Or torque management limiting torque transients if you mat the throttle from 5 mph.
No MPG improvement is noted and none was really promised. Which I guess is something GM could have predicted back when the 6L80 came out - adding 2 more ratios is not justifiable. But they kinda have to in 2015 so here it is. Would have been earlier without the bankruptcy anyway.
