C/D: 2016 ATS-V pricing supposedly leaked

Post by kevm14 »

$61k base price for the sedan. Interestingly this is about the same price as the CTS Vsport. This is higher performing but the CTS is obviously larger. They have similar engines (ATS-V has more tweaks and power).

But really, this:
The only optional extra I want is an LT1, not using it here is still Cadillac's biggest mistake in a while
Then again, maybe I can get over this since the ATS is actually a size smaller than my CTS and I can't see buying a smaller car than my CTS-V (personally). However, I still want these to sell.

I think they are saving the LT1 for the CTS-V. Can't put it in both because then the smaller cheaper one would be faster, and we can't have that.

For some reason GM doesn't understand that some people might want a bigger car and don't care if another "cheaper" car is a little faster.

I thought they were going after BMW. Isn't the M3 the real drivers car? The M5 is bigger and more comfortable and more expensive, and ... slower. Same for the M6

Example:
2012 M3 0-60 4.5s
2013 M6 0-60 5.3s

Not the best organization:

CTS-V is getting the LT4, 640hp supercharged. The best I can hope for is a next gen RWD SS type vehicle with the LT1. That's all I really need anyway. I don't need an $80k M5 fighter.

I wasn't saying that you would want an M5 fighter. I was showing that the M6 is slower than the M3. The ATS is the M3 competitor, so I was trying to say that it is ok for the ATS-V to be faster than the CTS-V if BMW is the competition.

I was also saying that that is counter to what GM usually does. GM previously has had the more expensive, and usually bigger cars get the most performance.

Take the Camaro vs. any smaller car that GM made.
Or the most obvious: The Corvette is the most expensive, and fastest.

I wasn't disagreeing. I guess I was saying I'm done wishing for this and that on the latest Cadillac V models. Everything's going down the drain anyway (EV, automation, etc.).

Well, as depressing as that is, I think it is true for the most part. Especially for automation, you would think that Cadillac would be GM's test dummy for the newest technology. Maybe Cadillac isn't your brand in the future. Most of the EV/automation/turbo options are expensive and may stay out of Chevy products for a while. (vice Bolt Volt)

The elephant in the room I believe is cost. I think that all of this stuff being pushed costs a lot extra, add all of the safety equipment and car prices are set to skyrocket in the future. Hopefully to the point that they start offering things separate again to a point. I get that everyone fully customizing their own vehicle is expensive to the car manufacturer, but I think they have swung to the other end of the spectrum by including a lot of costly fluff that most people could do without. Unfortunately some of it is unnecessarily mandated like back up cameras.

Also as far as the automation and EV stuff, I am ok with all of it if it can be optional. If somebody doesn't care about driving, or maybe isn't fit enough to do it safely (the elderly) maybe automation is a better option than none. I just don't want it in my car. I hope that that choice remains going forward.
