So. More to the hhr saga. New code P0303. Before I could was aware of repairs starting Zeb had installed new plugs (he said they were oem iridium’s). There was also an evap code. He and Colleen believe the gas cap was loose. He has replaced with a new oem gas cap.
I read codes:
P0303 active and pending
evap large leak p0455
Stored cat code p0422
I reset codes and I’m hoping to test drive to tests complete and retest at the emissions place in the morning, or identity if there’s a coil or injector contributing to the misfire.

Re: 2009 HHR cyl 3 misfire and evap code
Did one 90 sec idle in drive and now all tests complete except evap and secondary air.
Re: 2009 HHR cyl 3 misfire and evap code
Just had a serious stumble off idle at a light. I’m guessing there’s still a misfire, but no code yet. Apparently I do need to order a tool that can show misfire counts.
Re: 2009 HHR cyl 3 misfire and evap code
Had no codes for a little while. Then it had a permanent random misfire. Now a permanent 4 misfire.
Re: 2009 HHR cyl 3 misfire and evap code
Misfire was really bad on a highway on ramp. While misfiring the electronic stability control warnings and a flashing cel came on. Still no live cel though.
Re: 2009 HHR cyl 3 misfire and evap code
Seems to be missing worst under low vacuum lugging. That feels likely to be spark more than fuel maybe.
I take that back. Falls flat under high load anywhere. That seems like fuel.

Re: 2009 HHR cyl 3 misfire and evap code
Live data says fuel system 1 status is “OL fault”. I wonder what that means
Re: 2009 HHR cyl 3 misfire and evap code
Fuel pressure stayed right at 60 psi with minimal bounce when revving in park. I don’t have a good way to load test while driving though.
Re: 2009 HHR cyl 3 misfire and evap code
I pulled the #4 coil and the spring/resistor in the coil boot either fell out or were already laying at the bottom of the hole next to the plug. Pulled the rest to check and all others seemed to stay in the boot. Used dielectric grease to paste all in place, checked plug torque and reassembled. 5 min into test drive seems ok so far.
Re: 2009 HHR cyl 3 misfire and evap code
Ok. Back to all tests ready/ok except evap and secondary air. Hopefully a cold stat and highway jaunt in the morning will get me to at least one of those ready.
I’m supposed to have the car back by 10 am tomorrow and I would like to get it emissions tested if I can.
