2014 E63s: creaky sunroof fix

Post by kevm14 »

I watched this and then did it all from memory:

Basically there is a sunroof panel between the front and rear sunroofs that apparently creaks because some of the bolts get loose. So I removed a bolt, added Loctite and tightened it. I did that for 6 bolts. I also tightened a few more bolts that I could reach and they really didn't need much tightening. There was definitely one bolt that was the loosest and it also happens to be stripped (the head). But I think I was able to get it tight enough. That is the right front bolt of the 6 that I tightened. It would sort of be to the right and slightly behind the front passenger's head.

Anyway, this is fixed now.

I also fixed the sunshade issue. The rear sunshade would get stuck closed. You could sort of "help" it open and it would snap open. It looked like it was getting pinched by the headliner somehow so I just snapped those corners of the headliner down from their fully latched position and this seems to have given the shade enough clearance to not get stuck!! Kinda weird but I'll take it.

Replaced three plastic push rivets at the rear of the headliner that seemed loose. But the real rattle culprit actually seemed to be the third brake light somehow. I just snapped it back down into place. Weird.
