M/T: New Corolla vs old Civic

So now that the new Corolla beat the 3, how does it do vs the Civic which was last updated for 2016?

The Corolla inspired this comparison. Redesigned for 2020, the Corolla sedan follows the new-for-2019 hatchback to showrooms with improved tech and promises a more satisfying driving experience. It's an overdue change considering the last one we tested finished sixth in a comparison of seven cars, far behind the first-place Honda Civic. Ouch. That was back in 2016, and the Civic has barely changed since then. Surely the new 2020 Corolla can defeat the scarcely updated 2019 Civic?

Nope.

The Civic is still that good. Toyota diehards take note, however: The Corolla drives much better than before.

The Corolla has continued to sell for decades despite not being class leading. It's interesting but not that surprising to see the 3 year old Civic is still better.

It should be when the Corolla placed higher than the Mazda 3.

The new Corolla beat the new 3, which was worse than the older 3. Wonder if the new Corolla is better than the older 3.

That would be interesting since the older 3 used, would be much cheaper than a new Corolla.
