This helps make a point I've been trying to make for a few years now. And that is that the draw to Tesla is not performance or something related to driving enthusiasm. It is a luxury brand and so the draw is typical luxury brand things like technology, and the status or ideology that ownership of the car may project. It isn't suddenly that Prius owners are like "you know, I love driving, but after all these years, I finally realized the Prius sucks to drive." No. It's more that Prius owners are just seeking more of what they once got in the Prius - and many of them are moving up the socioeconomic ladder and can afford more car. The extra performance is a bonus that buyers may or may not care about.
