On the day I sold my Ranger. $8k is too high for me though.

I don't see anything out of place here.

What I want to desperately know is the history. Both his story (where he got it, how long he had it, whatever else I could get him to tell me) and what Carfax says. Both of those require contacting the seller because I don't have a VIN.

One random thing I noticed: between when the pictures were taken and the mileage he says the car had when he posted the ad, there is about a 900 mile difference.

Just wish it wasn't private. I hate talking to these guys on the phone. It's bad in either extreme. If I really want to buy this particular car, it's bad. And if I really don't think I will buy this particular car, it's bad. And if I turn out not to be a serious buyer of this car, I just contribute to Craigslist noise.

What I want to say: "Hey, $8k is more than I want to spend right now. Having driven the Pontiac version of this car, I am very interested to see how the Buick differentiates itself. Can I drive it?"

More or less what I have to say: "Hey I want to check out the car. Is Sat afternoon good for you?"

Which just defers the awkwardness to some time in the future (hopefully not in person). Said another way, I have to pretend that I might totally offer him $8k for this car. Until I have the data I want, and then I suddenly disappear. Or "discover" that I don't really have $8k. Just seems like a dick move. Because it is.

Now if I actually don't like the car, I guess that's the best thing I could hope for! I could be honest in that case.

http://www.fuelly.com/car/buick/lacross ... bmodel_id=

Two Supers on Fuelly.

One is averaging about 20 (65% highway, still tracking, 33,000 or so miles tracked) and the other is averaging about 23 (70% highway, traded in in 2015, 129,000 miles tracked!!). The distribution of fuel-up MPG to number of fuel ups looks fine, with most grouped between 20 and 24 MPG. The mode is actually 23 between these two cars.

Yeah I saw both of those before. The first one is the "sketchy" one. The Boston one looks rusty, based on the under hood pic.

I guess I could still take the extra time and go to Raynham just to drive the car, decide if I am into it or not, and wait for more time to pass before contacting the Warwick guy. I have a fundamental problem not buying a car at the bottom of the market but I have to remember I am also buying a backup car that Jamie would actually drive. Or maybe I don't need to spend any extra for that - I can get a high mile Super for $5k and do the same thing. Of course those basically don't exist except for that one with 180k in NJ for just under $5k. A highway mile car that's had a bunch of stuff replaced over its life and is in good cosmetic condition but worth a lot less due to the miles is exactly the kind of deal I always look for.

By the way, aside from a backup car, I see the car as my daily in a hypothetical situation where I bought my clean B-body and am swapping Caprice parts over, potentially disabling both cars for some amount of time. The idea is I have a legit car to use during that time. Now you could argue that, unlike the Ranger, the Ram is a legit car that I can use. I guess that is true. But there's no backup car for Jamie.

So maybe the backup car thing is a driver after all. I just don't need to spend $8k on it.

4L80E? That's pretty uncommon. Especially since he probably isn't producing big power. Love the baby seat.

That is all I was saying. Test drive the dealer car and don't waste the other guy's time. I wasn't saying to buy either dealer cars.

I don't know that I posted this before, but I've seen it. I just don't remember if the price has changed.
