Whelp, this ought to be interesting. Best Corvette vs the best GT-R. And already I know the Corvette has a $20k-$50k price advantage.

$46,670 and they appear to have tested the most expensive configuration of Z06.

Take a look at what the GT-R did to its front tires at 1:32.

Jesus Christ. Look at that figure 8 time (22.3s @ 1.06g ave, 1.17g skidpad). It demolished the GT-R (23.1s @ 0.99g ave, 1.03g skidpad), despite the AWD.

22.3s is 0.1s off the Porsche 918. That costs $845k. Is anyone excited about the C8 yet??

So looking at Randy's comments of the GT-R on the track, it's easy to see why the GT-R is called "driving a video game." But I do think that diminishes the engineering achievement. It's a very capable car and is rewarding by being precise but maybe a little uninteresting in terms of being so predictable. Foot on the floor, one hand on the wheel? Is that engaging? Time for the Z06 comments...

The engine soundtrack, manual trans, RWD handling characteristics...

The funny thing is, between the two of these cars, the Z06 is the Viper, but when the Corvette is compared to the Viper, it seems more like the GT-R. Funny.

Damn, the GT-R posted a much better lap time (1:25.7). Makes sense. The Z06 (1:27.1) was too loose. The GT-R can put power down sooner, but the Corvette didn't make it up with anything, and is still down on real power to weight a bit. I want to say that isn't the first time for that comment. It's strange because this represents a bit of a digression from the height of GM's ability to put power down. Perhaps while developing this car GM was like...uhh, we ARE doing mid-engine for the C8. It must be done. Still, I think this one could be tuned better. Maybe just the track mode settings make it a bit loose?

I wish they would stop saying the GT-R has less power. I bet it doesn't.

This also invites discussion into not just the rated power vs actual power issue, but the aero and the ECM's potential limiting of power under certain circumstances (for emissions). If emissions are what is neutering the output from this LT4 during hot laps then guess what. Bring on the replacement engine architecture because I don't approve of that. I'm a little disappointed here. Actually even if it not emissions but thermal management I'm still just as disappointed. It doesn't change how enjoyable the car will be for 99% of the people who buy one but that's not the point. I supported it when I thought GM was nailing ALL of the details. Better thermal management than the competition was an advantage they once held. Not on this one apparently.

And now onto stupid youtube comments.
The automatic is unproven. I am really looking forward what the auto will do. Hopefully it won't have much issues.
The 8L90, even though it is new, has all the advantages in the world. The DCT transmissions may win sexiness points in comparison tests but I will put ALL of my money on the GM torque converter trans at 100k. All day long.
AWD plus twin turbo equals win. Case closed
This sentiment is still real. I guess this is one of the reasons I hate on the WRX.

Turbos and AWD actually take away from the at the limit driving experience in my opinion. They both make the car a bit more numb. Alas, these internet fanboys can't be reasoned with.
