Damn.

300 lbs lighter. 3.6" longer wheelbase.

The new platform is E2XX. I guess this is the Epsilon II replacement.

New 1.5L turbo.
Again, the new car’s weight savings should help it keep parity, as should the 2.0-liter’s only transmission, a new eight-speed automatic. It is derived from GM’s 8L90 (seen previously in the Corvette, the Silverado/Sierra, and the big SUVs), albeit turned sideways and adapted for transverse, front-drive applications. We’re told the transmission in this form doesn’t have provisions for hooking up to a transfer case, meaning the Malibu will be strictly front-drive. The Malibu’s lead engineer assures us that this was no accident: No all-wheel drive means the design team didn’t need to beef up the car’s rear end for aft drive components, saving more weight.
This sounds like it will actually be competitive with the Fusion. Finally.

There is also a new hybrid that doesn't suck:

I hope the hybrid doesn't end up like the Fusion Hybrid with it's original 47 combined that slowly became like 40 combined :)

The Malibu styling I think ends up a bit of a collection of design trends from leading vehicles, which is a shame. However, I think the car overall is a better product and will sell better than the old one, which is the point.

It is like two-face from batman. From the front, it is a Chevy Fusion (which would be a Chevy Aston Martin???), but from the side it is the Chevy 3 series...

At least it's headlights aren't crying like the CT6...
