1990, looks great, 46k! Only $1,500? I wonder if it is the L05. They usually say because it is a big selling point.
Not much info in the ad in general, so maybe they don't know about the L05. Could be a diamond in the rough.
I was right.

Ok, could be a candidate for an LS swap but not sure if that's what I am looking for (to LS swap a car with no airbags).

I believe it has Brougham option package B from here:
http://www.motorera.com/cadillac/cad1990/cad90b.htm
Brougham Option Package B, includes
•illuminated vanity mirrors-driver and passenger
•rear sail panel reading lamps
•reclining power passenger seat
•six-way power passenger seat
•power trunk lid pull down
•Twilight Sentinel
I also believe it is not black! It is a very dark blue (Dark Otter).

Things that would make it more desirable:
- Well, the L05...
- Touring suspension....FE2?
- Heavy duty ride? FE2?
- Astroroof (93-96 Fleetwood did not have this available from Cadillac so this would be fancy)
- d'Elegance as previously mentioned
- Auto dimming rear view
- Delco-Bose audio! If it worked, would be cool for nostalgia purposes
- Leather steering wheel (ugh, 80s plastic crap)
- Wire wheels
- Better interior color

So maybe it is priced right. It is an odd ball. Probably the most undesirable 90-92 you can find from an equipment and engine standpoint, but happens to be very low miles and very clean.

Unlike an LT1-anything for $1,500, this thing will be an absolute slug with the 307 and 2.73 gears. So, I need to figure out what it is that I want/need. Do I want a clean and interesting building platform for a future LS swap? If so, this would meet that requirement. Or do I want something swappable but that doesn't totally suck to drive for however many years I go before actually doing it (more like the Roadmasters I've been looking at)?

Bob, want to test drive this and tell me how hilariously slow but comfortable and quiet it is?

So I replied:
Very clean car. As you must be aware, the car does have the 5.0L which is carbureted and is less desirable among the 90-92 generation. I will continue to look at the pictures and get back to you if I have any additional questions.

Thanks,
-Kevin
And her reply got my spidey sense tingling, but I am also intrigued:
The thing is I'm selling this car because my husband died 3 months ago (he was very sick) and this car brings me bad memories and that's the reason why I want to sell it asap...I along with my daughter decided to sell the house and we moved to my parents in Topeka, Kansas trying to start a new life. The car is already at the shipping company in the container, sealed and ready for delivery here in Topeka. The car is there already because someone agreed to buy it, but in the end he never got the loan. For this reason, the shipping is already paid. I will use eBay in this transaction for our protection. If you are not aware of this program, you should know that it will allow you to test drive and inspect the vehicle before paying me. The inspection period will be set to 5 days and I think is enough for you to make a decision about the vehicle. If you won`t like my vehicle, you notify eBay and you send the vehicle back on my expense. But I assure you it won't be the case.
If you want to continue the purchase, please reply with your full name, delivery address and phone number so I can start the transaction with eBay and ask them to send you the terms of this transaction. ( with no further obligation or fees).

Thank you
Craigslist ad becomes an eBay auction? WTF? I think I'll tell her I have a cousin in the area and see how sketchy her response is.

My Cutlass had the Y-code 307ci (LV2?) with 2.73:1 gears. It was not fast in a 3400lb car, so a 4000+ lb car will be even worse. If you can get over full-throttle acceleration performance, the 307ci drives fine. It can accelerate "good enough" to keep up with traffic and has no problems maintaining highway speeds. It does make ~250lb-ft, which is something. I was even able to get 25+ mpg on several occasions in the Cutlass, but that was before E10...

That car is very clean. The buying "arrangement" is sketchy-at-best, though.

So does this mean they ship you the car and you get to look at it for 5 days and ship it back if you don't like it? Sounds...weird. Also "I want to buy this car, but turns out I can't get a loan for $1500, but I already paid for shipping somehow"?

I don't even understand how this car existed for 26 years, and was driven at all, and looks this good. It is crazy that there isn't someone out there that really likes this body style and would want this for $1,500. I get that the 307 sucks, but a 350 would "just go in there". Even if you kept it carbureted, I know that is blasphemy to Kevin, but seriously, so what? It isn't the end of the world, people drove carbureted cars longer than fuel injection and they managed. You could probably get a used carbed SBC with 300+ HP and do minimal extra stuff to swap it, and have the nicest 1990 Brougham in existence. I bet you still get 18 to 20 MPG average overall. So what is this a 3K car all said and done? I mean as long as you aren't thinking this would be a race car, it would definitely be a very comfortable, capable cruiser that looks way better than a 90's B-Body. (Kevin is definitely going to hit me now...)

You could daily this while the whale is in the garage getting the turbo LS swap done...

I guess at this point the situation with the shipping container thing would have me wondering... Didn't the stolen cars from Gone in 60 Seconds go into shipping containers?

It's not stolen. http://classiccarslist.com/cadillac/131 ... ugham.html

The car exists for sale. But for 4 grand. It is telling that I was wringing my hands over the car, at $1,500. Yep, I am an impossible customer.

The 90-92 is growing on me, but only because this one was so affordable. I still think I should write them off due to (too much) value.

Very telling that the craigslist scam price didn't appeal to you.

So these 90-92 Broughams are way more interesting and special than any 90s RMS. But the RMS is available in generally clean condition, with 260 hp, for not much more money than this Brougham was supposedly priced at. It's like my house decision all over again. "I'm not in love with it, but the price was right and it does what I need it to do. And I can improve it over time to be more appealing." Literally the same thing.

Also it was fun to decode a 90-92 Brougham SPID. First time I ever did that.
