inflation calculator says the $26k this 96 SS cost is equivalent to $40,698.76 in 2017. This car was considered a good value in the mid 90s. Suddenly it is unacceptable for a V8 fullsize car to cost more than $35k. When a Camaro V8 already costs more than that. I guess I still don't understand the logic or expectation.
The Scat Pack is 40 and I have said that is a good deal. A very bland styled Big Malibu with a sticker of 50 is not a good deal. If you can get that for 40 it is better, but still not that nice looking for that kind of money. The Camaro with any options is quickly more with any options easily gets to 45-47K.
Salaries haven't risen much since this time, and inflation/costs of other things besides cars have so yeah, it is getting unaffordable. It isn't hard to understand that if a car was 26 and is now 40 and you have more expenses, and those expenses are also higher than in 1996, many people are being priced out of these cars. I am not blaming the car companies per se, but the economy is driving costs up, and companies can't keep up with salaries and stay profitable.
I mean you could definitely argue that the cars last longer now so they should be a better value, but if 20 more years from now a car is 100K and even more reliable, does it matter if nobody can afford it?

A little more playing with options and rarity on the STS.
This is not comprehensive but I honed in on some key options.
2005 STS V8s with FE3, K59 (adaptive cruise), 3.42 axle (RWD) and the 1SG package: 567
2006 STS V8s with same: 349
2007 STS V8s with FE3, K59, RWD and 1SG package: 628 (these have 3.23)
Adds up to 1,544. I did not do 2008 or newer yet. The V8 just becomes less and less common with the introduction of the DI V6.
They seem to go no higher than a 3.23 axle with RWD and a 6-speed auto. The end result with 3.23s and the 6L50 is a steeper first and taller top gear (6th) than 3.42 and the 5L50. I guess this is what I said before. According to EPA testing, this was only worth 1 mpg in the highway rating and no change in city.

To be completely fair, I don't even think all STS-Vs had the K59 adaptive cruise. Which I guess I am kind of surprised about.
EDIT: That $9999 STS-V in VA actually doesn't have it. And if I am to believe Comp Nine, no 2006 STS-Vs had it. It may be that they just didn't allow that on the STS-V.
Total 2006 STS-Vs: 1,306.

I will probably have to open up to any drive configuration. Besides, the 2007 gets the 6L50 with 3.23 as the only performance ratio, RWD or AWD. So that wider spread probably helps mitigate the extra weight and inertia of the AWD. Anyway, the point is, I'd rather have all the features if I have to choose.

Really nice Fleetwood.
https://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/cto/6070829180.html
Not sure if it is a Brougham. It has some desirable things: Painted roof, chromed/polished wheels and the sunroof. If that sunroof is factory this thing is highly desirable.
It is priced accordingly. If it has any sun damage at all it is not worth the asking price though. Overall it looks pretty awesome, with an incomplete set of pics.

And now for something modded.
https://boston.craigslist.org/nwb/cto/6048031304.html
1995 Cadillac Fleetwood - $3400 (Seabrook)
Selling my 1995 fleetwood.
• More rare non-brougham model. Basically just means no fake vinyl roof.
• no rot. Body, floors, frame solid
• small dent in hood. Easy fix
• blacked out and shaved trim
• LT-1 "corvette motor" replaced last year
• high miles, but motor and transmission replaced within the last year and a half. Very solid car.
• custom cold air intake
• headers
• custom exhaust
• intrax 2" lowering springs
• window tint
• cd player
• interior in great shape. Door panels nice and solid, not falling apart like most of these caddys
• HID lights
• being sold with 15" wheels. Chrome 20s are gone
• runs, shifts, drives, stops great
• head turner. Gets compliments and thumbs-up all the time
High miles but...new engine and trans or at least updated.
The wire wheel hubcaps look odd on this body style.
Pretty cool car though and the price is decent, I guess.
I wonder if it has cats with the headers and "custom" exhaust. It will need cats...
I have never seen a D-body with the exhaust outlets like that. Not bad really. V emblems. I love what he did with the grill.
With some SS wheels and Cadillac center caps this car would be damn sweet. Not a year round car, remember.

I sent a query...
Evening,
I’ll start out by saying I am a B/D-body enthusiast so I know what this is. I have a 93 Caprice with 313k that is getting pretty due for replacement. Had it since 2001, so I will probably be pretty picky about the replacement, right or wrong. I do have a few questions…
It has headers and custom exhaust – I don’t suppose it also has legal cats on it, too?
I like the V treatment (or perhaps FTS if you are so inclined). Pretty whacky seeing wire wheel hubcaps on there!
Engine and trans both replaced (junkyard?). Looking for more info here…miles on car, miles on replacements, etc.
More info on suspension – springs, shocks and any other mods please.
What rear does this have? I believe the non-Brougham cars were 2.56 unless it is an R1P with FE2 suspension. Hopefully this isn’t gibberish to you.
I guess that’s all for now…
-Kevin

The black one is more my style as far as styling. I actually don't mind the factory spoke rims. I do mind the 20's that it doesn't come with anyway...
Plus the Italian flag bonus badge. Sounds legit.
