RPO J56 is the Brembo brake package. Now get this.
Standard brakes are JL9. 5 lug. 12" front rotors. Part of lower trim 1SD and 1SE, and I'd guess you are looking at FE1 suspension here.
Upgraded brakes are JE5. 5 lug. 12.7" rotors all around. Part of (or available with) 1SF and 1SG. Probably more likely bundled with FE3 and 18s.
Even better brakes are J56. 6 lug. 14.x" rotors. It would appear that these are CTS-V brakes (which is awesome). Apparently these are also STS-V brakes. This may be common with 1SG but I don't know how common. This is very interesting. Side view pictures would probably reveal if the car had massive brakes. I may have seen one with them.
My opinion: JE5 is mandatory, though I think the SRX has a similar brake package and I would not be satisfied with those brakes even on a daily driver. My Caprice performs significantly better. So the availability of J56 would be icing on the cake and make the car even more interesting.
For Bill: plenty of threads on brake conversion. It is expensive to convert to 6 lug from research so better to get the brakes you want.
Caprice engine swap?
Re: Caprice engine swap?
See what I mean? This is a V but I am looking to see if I can actually find a non-V with these brakes to confirm what I think I am reading.kevm14 wrote:Even better brakes are J56. 6 lug. 14.x" rotors. So...I can count lugs I just realized. I am pretty sure I've seen a few 6 lug cars for sale. Part of the fun is the hunt. At least for me.tell us your vin.
99% - JE5 since you have mrc and 18 wheels +v8
j56 very rare brembo setup from sts-v with 6lug wheels
JL9 - for v6 in common
Re: Caprice engine swap?
I would bet these are JE5, which I think most of the upper level V8s with FE3 would have.

Re: Caprice engine swap?
I think J56 is incredibly rare on a non-V. Rare enough that even I don't know if I will be able to find one. I sifted through a lot of cars via image and I haven't found one yet.
I would still prefer a loaded 1SG RWD and I can hunt for one. I do know I want one with the 18s and they are less common (and more expensive) so I already have plenty of hunting around to do.

Oh, finally, this is a post about all the 1S# trim codes.

For example, I think you could get 18s on the 1SF. The point is, 17s probably mean small brakes, FE1, and guaranteed not to be a 1SG and likely a lower trim car.Be aware that there are no hard and fast rules on these equipment/trim packages because there are all kinds of individual delete and add options. For instance, my '06 1SF AWD V8 STS is one of a kind because it has an XM radio delete(U2J) that is ony shared with 114 other cars. Standard equipment may not be on your car if a delete was requested. Check the tag on the spare tire cover or the original window sticker.
Re: Caprice engine swap?
Just had a discussion. Jamie is OK with the budget and the idea of the STS, even a RWD one. I kind of expected this, so that is good.
I think I want to do my Comp Nine subscription and start running cars that I'd actually be interested in. I guess I need to make sure I have a few that I would actually consider buying (color, price, condition, location) if the options worked out the way I want.

Re: Caprice engine swap?
That is good news.
What is the deal with Comp Nine subscription? If it isn't ridiculous I might be persuaded to go in on one if it isn't crazy money.

Re: Caprice engine swap?
I looked at the link more closely. Ventilated seats were part of both 1SF and 1SG. And only with 1SG did 18" wheels come standard. But as I said before, they were available as an option on the 1SF. So if Bill didn't care about 18s, it is possible that there is a 1SF car with ventilated seats with 17s. No idea how common. That is where Comp Nine comes in. They tell you all that stuff.kevm14 wrote:Oh, finally, this is a post about all the 1S# trim codes.

Re: Caprice engine swap?
Let's look even more closely.
Really 1SF is pretty loaded and I wouldn't expect those to be terribly hard to locate.
Looks like FE3 with MRC is standard on both. So is limited slip and the JE5 brakes. And the high end BOSE system.
