It is hard to believe you will find one in all around better shape. Maybe one without the bumper situation, which may actually be very minor.
The interior is exceptional for a 20 year old car.

Re: Caprice engine swap?
So the flaws are:
- Sketchy stuff at the front end. I am not worried from a driveability standpoint, only in terms of what kind of effort it would take to restore. The hood isn't aligned flush with the fender, either. Someone definitely hit something. I don't know if I could just live with this.
- Driver's seat. I have definitely seen better driver's seat condition than this. I realize it is a 21 year old car. But it looks kind of beat. Though, amazingly, the leather is NOT torn at all next to the heated seat control. I wonder if it was actually repaired somewhere in its life.
The dent doesn't bother me in and of itself but overall the front body area is not the best that I've seen. Combined with the driver's seat, this car certainly isn't without flaws. I think my price is 3 grand, and that doesn't account for trip cost. I can find other southern Fleetwoods - so the rust-free nature of this is not something that cannot be repeated. The interior other than the driver's seat area seems pretty good, so there's that.

Re: Caprice engine swap?
Looking at that fender dent again, it is more of a crease. The fender actually bent in slightly in front of the wheel from the impact. The more I think about it the more I think I will have to pass on this, unless someone can convince me otherwise.
Re: Caprice engine swap?
I told him I had to pass. Now I'm kind of sad.
Though I maintain I should still pursue a legit backup car first, even though I know this did appear and I have to act given the relative rarity of the things I am looking for.

Re: Caprice engine swap?
The color actually looked better in the sun on that pic of the front passenger side bumper area. I do still like the Fleetwood, that's for sure. But I'm not ruling out a Roadmaster. I guess I just have to look at both and see what is available. I wish I had time to go drive that Super up in Raynham or wherever.
Re: Caprice engine swap?
Luckily with the timing, you could really buy either first with the winter being over. It is a good place to be to be able to take your time with a daily replacement Jamie can also drive in a pinch, and to be able to buy the next "hot rod" if it comes up first. Since you have time, you might want to define exactly what you are looking for for each car so it is easier to decide if something comes up.
Re: Caprice engine swap?
Well I just had an awkward discussion...
First I asked if Jamie would drive a clean Roadmaster or Fleetwood. And we pretty much came to the conclusion that while the cleanliness of a suitable replacement would be an upgrade from the Caprice, the bigger issues are she doesn't like boats, and they really aren't suitable in the winter. Nor would I want them to be driven in the winter anyway. So it could be a 3 season backup car, that doesn't really work in New England.
Then I said, well, the plan is to get a daily driver and also eventually replace the Caprice with a Fleetwood or Roadmaster. That's when things got awkward.
I was basically told a 5th car is out of the question, and I don't need another car that I don't drive in the winter. And if I really want one, I can sell the CTS-V.
Well none of this sounds familiar, does it?

Re: Caprice engine swap?
There is no car that she'd drive that could be a legit enthusiast car for me. Anything RWD is probably out. Which means...I'm out of options.
Then she said something like, well then I don't need a backup car.
Sigh.
