Re: Sony Vaio VGN-SZ280P: stripped to the chassis
Yeah the thing is with 3GB of RAM there isn't much to go around...we're only talking ~2GB of usage which in modern terms is pretty lightweight if dealing with a full desktop OS. I do remember that fact about 64-bit code. Isn't there theoretically a performance increase though? Tell me about computer...

Re: Sony Vaio VGN-SZ280P: stripped to the chassis
Onedrive integration. I installed Onedrive and then Onedriver which I guess is a GUI for it. It mounts as a removable drive and even shows how much space is remaining right in the file explorer. Pictures open and LibreOffice even opens docx files. I mean, this is definitely pretty usable for basic c...

Re: Post-Windows 7 HTPC plans
That didn't fix it. I'll continue looking for a solution. This occurred during The Matrix. I'll check other movies. Onto Bluetooth. I was using this one but reception was terrible when plugged into the back of the machine. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08DFBNG7F?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_tit...

This will also become my Linux Mint as a desktop OS thread even though I haven't touched the Vaio for a week.

Re: Post-Windows 7 HTPC plans
Everything was cheap so it's fine. Aside from making sure there are no weird bugs (like the IR remote situation), the other issue that I hope to resolve is the USB receiver still gets powered down on system standby so I cannot power it back on with the IR remote like I could on Windows 7. I was not...

Re: Post-Windows 7 HTPC plans
Got my PCIe USB card installed and then permanently installed LibreELEC. It was very fast to install. 20250508_193147.jpg 20250508_193155.jpg 20250508_193222.jpg 20250508_193236.jpg 20250508_193331.jpg 20250508_193337.jpg 20250508_193438.jpg Had a hard time getting my bluetooth keyboard remote worki...

Re: Post-Windows 7 HTPC plans
As for generic vs legacy generic LibeELEC builds: The difference between "Generic" and "Generic-legacy" is the graphics stack. Generic uses GBM, so there is no display server or manager. Kodi is controlling what gets fed to your screen itself. At present, it's needed to get HDR w...

Re: Post-Windows 7 HTPC plans
Got my 3 pack of USB drives. 20250508_051642.jpg 20250508_051648.jpg Made a LibreELEC boot drive. It's funny. For Mint, the user friendly distro, I had to use Rufus to write the ISO to the flash drive. With LibreELEC, they have a Windows or Mac OS wizard that downloads AND writes the ISO to the flas...
